Before you are able to interact positively, work collaboratively
and guide children positively, you need to analyse your feelings
on those very issues. It is easy for a child care worker to
carry their own beliefs on child care principles into the
workplace, however their own beliefs may not always be the
same as those of the centre's philosophy. To assist you with
doing this analysis of your feelings, and to help you learn
more about yourself in the process, I'm going to ask you to
write a journal.

This may bring up some sensitive memories from your childhood,
but I know you will persevere - the outcome will be positive.
To start you off, here are some questions for you to think
about:
|
 |
Describe a time (when you were young) that you remember was really happy. What kinds of interactions were used between the adults and children involved? How did this time make you feel?
Describe a time (when you were young) that you remember being disciplined by an adult. What discipline was applied to you? How did it make you feel?
Describe a time more recently when you have had a positive interaction. What exactly was it that made the interaction positive? How did it make you feel?
Describe a time more recently when you have had a negative interaction. What exactly was it that made the interaction negative? How did it make you feel?

Don't think too hard about the answers - usually the first
thing that 'pops' in to your head is related to the most influential
memory. Now write down your responses to these questions and
submit them to your facilitator. You can be sure that by posting
or submitting your journal by e-mail that it will remain confidential.
|
Your journal should be ongoing throughout this entire project.
You can make entries about your feelings on various topics that
you will be learning about and discussing, like the debate that's
coming up later. When the final project is completed, you'll be
asked to submit your full journal to your facilitator. You could
even consider keeping your journal going to allow you to reflect
on each day's achievements as you progress through your life.
|
As it is your journal, I would encourage you to decorate
it to suit yourself and your personality. You can enter photos
or drawings, it is up to you. If you're not sure about the
format of your journal, contact your facilitator.
