Applied Research Projects for 2003

The following five applied research projects were produced under the 2003 Applied Research project.


1. Keys to Access: Accessibility Conformance in VET

The purpose of this research is to investigate the accessibility conformance and policy implementation in VET, analyse the drivers and obstacles in conformance, and suggest implementation procedures that assist conformance.

2. Barriers to e-learning in the Community Pharmacy Sector

3. Debating the future of learning: exploring online learning in the culture of correctional services organisations

An investigation of the factors influencing the current culture in correctional workplaces and the ways in which those factors can be addressed to promote and support significant change in the way training is designed, managed and valued, particularly by supervisors and middle management.

4. Exploring Educational Design: a snapshot of eight case studies using elearning in Australian VET

This research is premised on the notion that students have particular learning needs and preferences, and that is possible to design to suit these needs and preferences. It is teachers who are the key to providing highly tailored learning solutions that can blend degrees of direction and self-direction to most benefit learners.

5. From content to construction: Investigating teacher readiness in the uptake of collaborative online techniques.

Investigation of the barriers to teachers of NESB learners implementing online social and collaborative approaches, as well as investigating the skills and confidence required of teachers. Development of strategies that can be employed to overcome these barriers.

Consultant Researcher/Writer

The Consultant Researcher/Writer for 2003 is Phoebe Palmieri from Victoria. Phoebe brings a vast experience of over 20 years in VET and has been an independent consultant since 1996. Phoebe has also been a researcher and evaluator, and was a member of the KPMG team which evaluated the Australian Flexible Learning Framework in 2002.
